Discovering Plants with Minnesota Roots – April 28th

April 22, 2018 By Cassie

Saturday, April 28th @ 1 pm

Some plants just shout that they are from the North—conifers draped in snow (even in April!), grasses that remind us of the prairie, tall oaks from the big woods. But what about peonies, gladiolus, apples, and cantaloupe? These, too, are plants with Minnesota roots, according to Mary Lahr Schier, author of the new book The Northern Gardener: From Apples to Zinnias, 150 Years of Garden Wisdom (Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2017).

Schier will introduce local gardeners (or history buffs) to the people and plants that made horticulture in Minnesota. Her talk will feature dozens of images and a handout of heritage plants to include in your own northern garden.

Adult Storytime @ the Rooster

April 14, 2018 By Cassie

Why should kids have all the fun? Listen as stories are read out loud while you enjoy a glass of beer or wine (or coffee or soda).

Stories are from a wide range of fun genres but do contain some adult language and mild adult themes, therefore this event is not suitable for children.

ALSO featuring John Weiss reading from his book, BACK ROADS, “the best of the best by Rochester Post-Bulletin columnist.”
Local students from Stories: YES Houston will eagerly collect your stories (if you choose) about work life in Houston County at the event, too! www.StoriesYesHouston.com

Presented in partnership with the Friends of the Caledonia Public Library and Stories: YES Houston

**Does “ADULT” mean something risqué? HAHA, NO! It just means leave the kids at home and make it a date night.**
